Classic yet sometimes tricky questions, they all deserve that you clearly think about a relevant answer. The most questions are:

  • So, tell me a little about yourself.
  • Why are you looking (or why did you leave you last job)?
  • Tell me what you know about this company.
  • Why do you want to work at X Company?
  • What relevant experience do you have?
  • If your previous co-workers were here, what would they say about you?
  • Have you done anything to further your experience?
  • Where else have you applied?
  • How are you when you’re working under pressure?
  • What motivates you to do a good job?
  • What’s your greatest strength?
  • What’s your biggest weakness?
  • Let’s talk about salary. What are you looking for?
  • Are you good at working in a team?
  • Tell me a suggestion you have made that was implemented.
  • Has anything ever irritated you about people you’ve worked with?
  • Is there anyone you just could not work with?
  • Tell me about any issues you’ve had with a previous boss.
  • Would you rather work for money or job satisfaction?
  • Would you rather be liked or feared?
  • Are you willing to put the interests of X Company ahead of your own?
  • So, explain why I should hire you.
  • Finally, do you have any questions to ask me?

This will be an opportunity to move beyond the résumé and learn more about your skills and personality traits that can’t be shown on your CV. Here is a very smart list of favorite questions you definitely should think about:

  • Describe your toughest assignment so far.

    • This question will quickly reveal your weaknesses and how you cope with them.

  • Share with me a conversation you had with your boss or others in your life where some feedback you heard was tough to take.

    • How do you listen and act on feedback? How do you handle criticism ?

  • What will you do if you don’t get this job?

    • This one will show if you have a career path and are committed to your aspirations, but you could also tell that you have other interviews so the interviewer knows they’ll have to react fast if they want you!

  • Why should I hire you?

    • What is your motivation to get the job, how passionate are you, did you research about it and the company?

  • Have you ever had to terminate someone?

    • How do you work in team, can you make tough decision if someone is not working out?

  • Tell me about a problem your company had and how you used technology to solve it.

    • This question has a double goal: check that you have the knowledge, and check that you know how to use it.

  • What book is currently on your nightstand?

    • Some think that readers tend to be learners, and this will tell a lot about your personality.

Do you have a meeting, you’re supposed to make a presentation and you’re scared to death? You’re not alone. Sit back and learn how to increase your self-confidence.

  • Prepare First
    Know exactly what you are going to say in your speech and how you want to say it.
  • Be Brief
    Most amateur speakers try to say too much in a single speech. Be concise.
  • Accept The Fact That You Will Be Nervous
    Even the most experienced speakers get nervous. Use that energy to give the delivery of your speech a boost. Walk around a little, if there is sufficient room and use some gestures. Just don’t over do it.
  • Focus On Your Audience And Not Yourself
    Most stage fright is rooted in preoccupation with yourself : “How do I look, how do I sound, Will I mess up” Don’t focus on yourself. Instead, focus on your audience.
  • Practice In Front Of Others
    Practice your presentation in front of supportive audiences like family and friends. It may be uncomfortable at first, but the more times you do it the easier it will become.
  • Visualize Yourself as a Success
    In the days before you present your speech, practice relaxation techniques. Choose a quiet place and lie or sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes, breathe slowly and try to picture yourself presenting your speech with confidence and thoughtfulness. See yourself clearly as you receive compliments on your presentation.
  • Breathe Deeply
    While you are waiting to begin speaking, take three slow, deep breaths through your nose, filling your abdomen. Breathe out through your mouth and think ‘relax.’
  • Give Yourself Affirmations
    Just before you give a speech, try giving yourself a pep talk. Tell yourself things like, ‘I can do this’ and ‘If I make a mistake, it’s okay, everybody makes mistakes.’ Accept your mistakes as part of life’s learning process.
  • Act Confidently
    Remember that no one knows what is in your presentation. If you make a mistake, no one will know that you messed up.
  • Do Not Take Yourself Too Seriously
    If you’ve made an obvious mistake in your speech, acknowledge it with some humor aimed at yourself.

Rinse. Repeat. Getting more confident is not a 5 minute task, it takes some times, but it is definitely possible for everyone.

  • Check for freelance jobs. People are always looking for translators, proof readers, designers, coders, writers, on places such as Get a Freelancer.
  • Plan your next trip. Kayak is fun and fast.
  • Work on your flexibility. Even sitting on a chair, you can make some exercises.
  • Network. Meet new people, get back in touch with people you’ve let down for a while.
  • Learn a new language. Sites like FSI Language courses provide free courses (mp3 files) for dozens of languages.

The IT department’s job is of course to make such things hard, if not impossible. Hard, you say? No more! I found a very neat article listing 10 tricks to beat the IT dept guys:

  • SEND GIANT FILES
    Everybody needs to email big files from time to time, everything from big marketing presentations to vacation photos. But if you send anything larger than a few megabytes, chances are you’ll get an email saying you’ve hit the company’s limit.
  • USE SOFTWARE THAT YOUR COMPANY WON’T LET YOU DOWNLOAD
    Many companies require that employees get permission from the IT department to download software. But that can be problematic if you’re trying to download software that your IT department has blacklisted.
  • VISIT THE WEB SITES YOUR COMPANY BLOCKS
    Companies often block employees from visiting certain sites — ranging from the really nefarious (porn) to probably bad (gambling) to mostly innocuous (Web-based email services).
  • CLEAR YOUR TRACKS ON YOUR WORK LAPTOP
    If you use a company-owned laptop at home, chances are you use it for personal tasks: planning family vacations, shopping for beach books, organizing online photo albums and so on. Many companies reserve the right to monitor all that activity, because the laptops are technically their property. So what happens if your — ahem — friend accidentally surfs onto a porn site or does a Web search for some embarrassing ailment?
  • SEARCH FOR YOUR WORK DOCUMENTS FROM HOME
    You’re catching up on work late at night or over the weekend — but the documents you need to search through are stuck on your office PC.
  • STORE WORK FILES ONLINE
    Desktop search aside, most people who often work away from the office have come up with their own solution to getting access to work files. They save them on a disk or a portable device and then plug it into a home computer. Or they store the files on the company network, then access the network remotely.   • ACCESS YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL ON YOUR BLACKBERRY
    If you do have a BlackBerry, you’ve probably got a different problem: You want to get your personal email just as easily as work email.

  1. AdesClrPicker is tiny: runs smooth even on your old Pentium II, because it only weights 1.04 MB
  2. It’s fast: it was programmed in Delphi, which is noticeably known for making compact and fast applications. More then, say… Visual Basic.
  3. It’s discreet: your already very busy desktop doesn’t need another window open. AdesClrPicker sits in the systray and all the space it needs is just its tiny icon. Activate
  4. It’s versatile: whatever you need it for, it will do the job, since it picks colors in HTML, RGB, Delphi, C++ or VB codes
  5. It’s handy: when a webmaster wants to quickly add in a page an item with a text color that matches the site’s color scheme, what are their options ? Fire the hefty Photoshop for a screenshot then get the picker tool. Or remember that just one click away, there’s a handy and fast tool ready to help you in a blink Preview
  6. It’s convenient: webmasters will like the ability to store your favorite and most used colors in libraries.
